Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone may be released in markets across the globe in the coming months. His nascent company Essential unveiled its first smartphone several weeks ago. While the handset is yet to be released to customers in the United States, according to a new report, Essential employees are now paving the way for a launch in markets like Japan and Europe.
When the handset was unveiled, Rubin promised that it would be released in the United States within 30 days. The company has missed the deadline which passed last month and hasn’t confirmed so far why the deadline was missed.
It’s obviously going to have a good reason for delaying the release of its first smartphone ever. Perhaps the company required just a bit more time to tweak certain aspects of the device before it felt comfortable in shipping them out.
The Financial Times reports today that Essential executives are working on launching the Essential Phone internationally. They may be aiming for a release in Japan and Europe. Essential is said to be in talks with several carriers in the United Kingdom.
Essential still hasn’t confirmed when the handset is going to be released to customers in the United States, though. Niccolo de Masi, the chief operating officer of Essential, has said that the U.S. release of the company’s first smartphone is “imminent.”
