Apple is due to launch its new smartphone in the fall this year. The company normally unveils new handsets in the month of September and then releases them after a couple of weeks. That’s what’s likely to happen this year as well. However, analysts from the Bank of America Merrill Lynch are now predicting that the iPhone 8 release is actually going to be delayed by three to four weeks.
Analysts from Bank of America Merrill Lynch visited suppliers in Asia recently. Their conversations with the supply chain have suggested that due to the technical issues that Apple and its suppliers are working through, the iPhone 8 release is likely to be delayed by three to four weeks.
The analysts say that the technical issues have been blamed on fingerprint and 3D sensors for the next-generation flagship smartphone. They have also lowered their shipment estimates for the iPhone by 11 million for the year.
As previously mentioned, Apple generally releases new iPhone models in September and the rumor mill has held on that timeframe for now. There has been the odd report, though, suggesting that issues with certain components might force Apple to delay the launch.
Whether or not that really ends up happening remains to be seen. Apple hasn’t said anything about the iPhone 8 at this point in time and we can’t expect it to before the announcement.
The company normally confirms the launch event a week before by sending out invites to the press so it will be interesting to see when it does that in the month of September.
