Apple long made the shift to larger displays for the iPhone but it has been selling the iPhone SE for those who still want to have a handset with a smaller display. It’s the only iPhone that the company is selling right now which features a 4 inch display. Analyst Pan Jiutang predicts that Apple is not going to refresh the iPhone SE this year which effectively means that the end is near for this device.

Jiutang predicts that Apple will maintain focus on iPhones with displays larger than 5 inches because that’s where the sales are these days. A trend has been developed in which smartphones continue to get slimmer but their displays keep on increasing in size.

The company is expected to follow the trend this year as a result of which it may decide that it’s fruitless to refresh and sell the iPhone SE. The only iPhone option with a smaller display that Apple is likely to keep one will be the iPhone 7s with its 4.7 inch display.

Whether or not the company ends up doing this remains to be seen. Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about its 2017 smartphone plans for now so take all of this with a grain of salt.

Apple is due to unveil new iPhones in September this year.
