Singer Justin Bieber is no stranger to breaking online records. Back in 2012, the singer broke the record for the most Vevo views on YouTube in 24 hours, where his song “Boyfriend” managed to hit 8 million views in 24 hours, breaking the previous record held by Rihanna which was at 4.9 million views in 24 hours.

Fast forward a few years later, it looks like Justin Bieber is breaking yet another record, and this time it is with a song that wasn’t his to begin with. According to a report from The Guardian, Justin Bieber’s take on “Despacito” managed to rack up 4.6 billion streams globally, making it the most streamed song of all time. It also looks like Bieber broke the previous record which was also held by him for the song “Sorry” which managed 4.38 billion streams.

The original “Despacito” song was sung by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, but a version which was sung (partly) in English and featured Bieber’s vocals was the one that helped it to achieve mainstream success. According to Universal CEO Lucian Grainge, “Streaming has opened up the possibility of a song with a different beat, from a different culture and in a different language to become a juggernaut of success around the world.”

The song is currently sitting at the top of the UK charts for the past 9 weeks out of 10 weeks since its release, and has also made it the longest run for a foreign-language song.
