There has been much speculation recently about the future of the iPhone SE. It’s the only model in Apple’s smartphone lineup right now that features a 4 inch display. Most of Apple’s customers prefer iPhones with larger displays but there are still some who appreciate a smaller display. Given market trends, though, it’s expected that Apple may not keep the iPhone SE around for much longer. However, recent rumors have started suggesting otherwise.

There have been multiple rumors over the past couple of weeks suggesting that Apple may be developing a successor to the iPhone SE. This particular handset may even be launched before the iPhone 8 is made official later this year in the fall.

No further information is available about this handset right now but it’s believed to retain the 4 inch display size that has made it a darling among customers who don’t want smartphones with giant screens.

If Apple is making one such handset, we can reasonably expect it to have decent internals, at least better than what the iPhone SE already has. It may also be powered by the latest iteration of iOS.

Rumor has it that the iPhone SE successor may actually be cheaper than its predecessor, at least in some markets, this will enable Apple to bring the iPhone to more people, particularly those who don’t want to spend too much money on a smartphone.

Apple has obviously said nothing about this so far and it’s unlikely to say anything. If this handset really is in the pipeline, we can expect the company to say more about it next month.
