There has been much speculation about the future of the Nintendo New 3DS. While Nintendo said that it would stand by the platform, the company only announced three new titles for the New 3DS at the E3 2017 gaming convention. This led people to believe that the end was near for this console. Nintendo has confirmed that now. The company has announced on its Japanese website that it has stopped manufacturing the Nintendo New 3DS.

The company may not feel the need to keep this device around any longer given that its new console, the Nintendo Switch, doubles as a console and a handheld gaming device. It would much rather have customers purchasing that than any old gaming machine.

That being said, it’s not that surprising to see that Nintendo has decided to end the production of the Nintendo New 3DS. The console itself is almost three years old and is losing out on sales to Nintendo’s very own 2DS XL.

That’s a more modern option and customers are likely to opt for that even though it doesn’t offer the 3D effects of this particular console.

Nintendo doesn’t seem to have halted production of the Nintendo 3DS XL but it will be interesting to see how long it continues to do that before making the very same decision that it has confirmed today.
