Samsung wants to redesign its QLED TV stand and it has teamed up with popular design magazine Dezeen to launch a competition that is free to enter for all professional designers, non-designers, students and teams. It’s also going to accept entries from individuals and teams of designers.

All those who submit their entries must be over 18 and able to present their design to a panel of English-speaking judges. They also have to be available from August 26 to September 2 as Samsung will invite the five finalists to the IFA 2017 trade show in Berlin.

Samsung is asking contestants to rethink the dimension and shape of its QLED TV stand. The designs that are submitted can either be freestanding or table-mounted. Samsung encourages participants to use innovative materials.

The company wants the designs to be outstanding, designs which show that the TV is no longer just a technology item but a lifestyle product. Participants should have a certain lifestyle in mind and their design should match it. For example, this can be luxurious, minimal or eccentric.

Samsung has a prize pool of €30,000 for this contest. The winning design receives €8,000 and the other four finalists get €3,000 each. The 10 entrants that make it to the shortlist will receive €1,000 each.

Contestants will also have the chance to ink a separate agreement with Samsung over the rights to use their design. The ownership of the design will remain with the designer.

More details about the contest as well as the technical files and specifications are available on Dezeen’s website. Entries are due by August 1.
