Back in the day, there weren’t that many RTS games around. You had the likes of StarCraft, Warcraft, Red Alert, Command & Conquer, and Age of Empires. Many of those franchises have kind of stalled in recent times, but that’s not the case for Microsoft’s Age of Empires because it seems that gamers can look forward to a fourth installment.

Microsoft has officially announced Age of Empires IV during Gamescom 2017, so if you grew up playing the franchise and would love to see a more modern version of the RTS, then this is your lucky day. According to Microsoft, “We are thrilled to continue growing the empire, and excited to share that we are working with Relic Entertainment on a brand-new title for the Age of Empires franchise – Age of Empires IV.”

“Relic Entertainment has a wealth of experience in creating high-quality RTS games, making them the ideal partner to develop Age of Empires IV. We are thrilled to be working with them and can’t wait for fans to see their unique and exciting contribution to the Age of Empires franchise.”

Unfortunately details about the game, such as when it will be released, remains unclear. However Microsoft is working on the Definitive Edition for both Ages of Empires II and III, with the Definitive Edition for the first Age of Empires set for a release on the 19th of October.
