When it comes to security apps for the computer, there are various software suites out there that you can use, and Kaspersky is one of them. However in a report from CyberScoop, it seems that the FBI is advising companies in the private sector to ditch Kaspersky’s apps, claiming that the company’s apps is an “unacceptable threat to national security”.It is unclear as to what sort of threats the company’s apps offer, but unsurprisingly the company has denied these allegations. In fact not too long ago, Kaspersky’s CEO Eugene Kaspersky even offered up the source code to its apps in a bid to clear their name, although it seems that this offering has fallen onto deaf ears since the FBI is apparently still pushing to get private companies to ditch the software.
In a statement made by Kaspersky, “The company doesn’t have inappropriate ties with any government, which is why no credible evidence has been presented publicly by anyone or any organization to back up the false allegations made against Kaspersky Lab. The only conclusion seems to be that Kaspersky Lab, a private company, is caught in the middle of a geopolitical fight, and it’s being treated unfairly, even though the company has never helped, nor will help, any government in the world with its cyber-espionage or offensive cyber efforts.”
This isn’t the first time that foreign tech companies have been accused of working against the US government. For example several years ago Chinese company Huawei was accused of manufacturing spy phones for the Chinese government.
