There are countless brands of Android devices out there today, some of which you might have heard of, and some of which you might not. With so many to choose from, are you sure that the Android device you’re buying is certified by Google? Thanks to Google’s recent efforts, you’ll soon be able to tell.

Prior to this, you could tell that an Android device was certified based on whether or not it came bundled with Google apps and access to the Play Store. Those that did not would not have these apps or access, but that’s only after you purchase the phone and turn it on, but before that you wouldn’t know unless you’ve done your research or purchased from a reputable manufacturer.

However like we said this is something Google is changing with the Play Protect logo which will be branded on devices that are certified by Google. “Today, hundreds of licensed manufacturers offer a great experience by getting their devices certified […] And when you shop for a new Android phone or tablet, we recommend asking for a certified device or looking for the Google Play Protect logo on the box, to make sure it brings the benefits of certification and additional layers of security provided by Play Protect.”

Of course buying from a reputable manufacturer like Samsung, LG, HTC, and so on would make it easier, but for some markets, there might be cheaper local brands that customers might prefer, and seeing this Play Protect branding will make it easier for them to know that their devices are certified by Google.
