Recently there were reports to suggest that the HTC U11 could be getting an update to its firmware that would give the phone Bluetooth 5.0 capabilities. It turns out the rumors were true after all because HTC has since confirmed this themselves in a post on their website, where they promised that Bluetooth 5.0 functionality would be coming to the phone.

However according to HTC’s website, it seems that Bluetooth 5.0 will only be arriving as part of the update to Android 8.0 O. At the moment there is no confirmation as to when Android O will be released, or for that matter, when will HTC push the update out to its phones like the HTC U11.

For all we know it could be by the end of the year, or maybe even early 2018. According to HTC, “When Android O, the next version of the Android OS becomes available, HTC U11 owners all over the world will be able to enjoy the benefits of Bluetooth 5.0. We’re excited to be able to bring this announcement to HTC U11 customers around the world as we strive to continuously improve our customers’ mobile experience—we believe Bluetooth 5.0 compatibility helps do that.”

However it is still good news all the same and we guess we’ll just have to wait and see when Android O for the HTC U11 will be released.
