More and more legacy car manufacturers are jumping on the electric car bandwagon. Seeing the success that has come Tesla’s way, many manufacturers have now decided that they want a piece of the electric car pie as well. South Korea-based Hyundai has now confirmed that it’s placing electric cars at the center of its future product strategy.

The company is planning to come out with a long-range premium electric car in the future. This is a strategic shift for Hyundai. It previously threw its weight behind fuel cell technology but that hasn’t taken off.

Electric cars are now the go-to option for those looking to purchase an eco-friendly vehicle. The popularity of electric cars is bound to increase significantly as new models hit the market in the coming years.

Hyundai is planning to launch an all electric sedan under its premium Genesis brand in 2021. The new car will have a range of 310 miles per charge. Hyundai is also going to launch an electric version of its Kona small SUV which will offer a range of 240 miles. This particular vehicle will be launched by the first half of 2018.

The company’s future plans include eight battery-powered electric cars. Hyundai is actually developing its first dedicated electric car platform which will enable it to produce multiple models with longer range on one platform.
