The smart speaker trend appears to have caught on. Many major companies are now working on their own iterations of the product that Amazon can be credited for popularizing. A new FCC filing reveals that Sonos might be working on a smart speaker of its own. One has been spotted at the Federal Communications Commission recently.

It has been rumored for quite some time now that Sonos is working on its own smart speaker. The company already makes some of the best multi-room audio setups found on the market today. It would make sense for the company to jump on the smart speaker bandwagon as well.

The FCC filing doesn’t reveal too many details about the product itself. It reveals that the Sonos product has far-field microphones that are designed to isolate voices inside a room. Far-field microphones are already found in other smart speakers like the Amazon Echo.

The filing also mentions that this product is going to work with “multiple voice platforms and music services.” It remains to be seen which smart assistants this Sonos product is going to have support for. There have been no reports so far suggesting the possibility of Sonos building its own assistant.

Sonos hasn’t confirmed or denied the possibility of launching a smart speaker as yet so it’s unclear when it’s planning to unveil this device.
