We recently reported on the possibility that Sonos was developing its very own smart speaker. While the company hasn’t confirmed such a product so far, it has sent out invites to the press for an event on October 4th. It’s reportedly going to launch its first smart speaker at this event.
The Sonos smart speaker was recently spotted in an FCC filing. The filing revealed that it’s going to have voice control with far field microphones which will be able to pick up voice commands from across the room.
The event invites that Sonos has sent out feature a subtle hint to voice control as well. They feature an image of an open mouth. There’s an image in the lower left corner of the invite which is similar to what we saw in the FCC filing. It looks like a controller graphic with play/pause controls and a microphone icon.
It’s unlikely that Sonos has developed its own smart assistant for the product. The FCC filing suggests that it’s actually going to have support for multiple voice assistants. It’s unclear which assistants it will support at launch.
Sonos hasn’t revealed any further information about its upcoming device so far and it’s unlikely going to do so prior to the event. Sonos is going to unveil its first smart speaker at an event in New York City on October 4th.
