Have you been looking forward to picking up the Asus ZenFone AR? This Project Tango-compatible handset recently went on sale via Verizon in the United States. If you want to purchase this handset but don’t want to get locked to Verizon, there’s another option. The Asus ZenFone AR is now available for purchase off-contract and unlocked from Amazon.

Compatible with Google’s Project Tango augmented reality platform, the ZenFone AR features a 5.7 inch AMOLED display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The handset also has support for Daydream VR. Google’s relatively new virtual reality platform is supported by this handset so users will be able to take advantage of Daydream VR support with the ZenFone AR.

Verizon started selling the ZenFone AR to its customers yesterday. It’s the only carrier in the country to do so at this point in time. It remains to be seen if other carriers will end up picking this device.

The unlocked and off-contract Asus ZenFone AR is now available for purchase in the United States. The version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage can be purchased from Amazon for $599.

The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is available for purchase for $699 but it’s not going to start shipping for at least 2-4 weeks.

CDMA networks are not supported so customers will be able to use the ZenFone AR on AT&T and T-Mobile.
