At IFA 2017 in Berlin a couple of weeks ago, Dell announced that it was jumping on the virtual reality bandwagon with a new product called the Dell Visor. It’s a VR headset that the company has made for Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality platform. The company’s notebooks will power the virtual reality experiences that users can immerse themselves in with the Visor. Dell has started taking pre-orders for the Visor starting today.
Touting a resolution of 1,440×1,440 per 2.89 inch LCD panel for each eye, the Dell Visor offers a 110 degree field of view, a 360 degree panoramic view and a 90Hz refresh rate. To enable users to easily transition between the real and the virtual worlds, the headset simply flips up.
We spent some time with the headset at IFA 2017 and found that it was comfortable to wear and provided a very good experience for the price. As is the case with all other Windows Mixed Reality headsets on the markets, users require compatible Windows PCs in order for the headset to function.
Compatible options from Dell include notebooks like the Dell Inspiron 15 7000. Dell is taking pre-orders for the Visor starting today via its website in the United States.
It’s charging $350 for the Visor alone and an additional $100 for a pair of accompanying controllers. The Dell Visor will start shipping on October 17th.
