Face ID in theory and on paper sounds like it has the chops to blow the competition out of the way. However initial hands-on previews of the feature have created some doubts in people’s minds as to whether or not this feature is what Apple has hyped it up to be, or if we could be looking at another Siri-like situation, where it sounds good in theory but not so good in real-life.

However it seems that Apple is pretty confident about Face ID and how those concerns people are having about the feature will disappear once they get their hands on the iPhone X. Speaking on The Talk Show (via MacRumors) with John Gruber, Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi said that any doubts that people might have will go away when they start using the feature.

The Apple exec was quoted as saying, “Honestly, we’re just all counting the days that customers can finally get their hands on these. Because I think just like with Touch ID, initially people thought oh, ‘Apple’s done something that’s totally not going to work and I’m not a believer and I’m not gonna use this feature.’  Now everyone’s worried because they can’t imagine life without Touch ID. We’re going to see exactly the same thing with Face ID.”

Federighi does have a point about Touch ID, especially since Apple was not the first to try and install a fingerpritn scanner on a mobile device, but the speed and reliability has since resulted in fingerprint scanners being a common feature found across smartphones. However we guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Face ID will have the same effect, which will be in November when the iPhone X is released.
