Asking a friend to meet up and hanging out isn’t particularly difficult, but it seems that Facebook wants to make it easier. In a report from Motherboard, it seems that the social networking platform is testing out a new feature for its Messenger app that will make it easier for friends to meet up with each other.
In the report, it seems that the feature basically prompts users to see whether or not they want to meet up, in which they can choose yes or no. Responses appear to be private unless both parties say yes, in which they will then be notified, similar to how most dating apps work where both parties have to like each other in order for the conversation to begin.
Facebook has since confirmed that this is a feature they are testing and in a statement provided by Facebook to Motherboard, a spokesperson was quoted as saying, “People often use Facebook to make plans with their friends. So, we’re running a very small test in the Facebook app to make that easier. We look forward to hearing people’s feedback.”
At the moment the testing appears to be limited to users in Toronto, Canada, as well as New Zealand for both iOS and Android users. We’re not sure if there are plans to roll it out on a wider scale since Facebook could ultimately decide it’s not worth it, but what do you guys think?
