If you’re a fan of Pokemon or if you’ve yet to hop onto one of Nintendo’s handheld consoles, the company has recently taken the wraps off two new limited edition Pokemon-themed Nintendo 2DS XL handheld consoles. As you can see in the image above, one has been themed to look like a Pokeball, while the other sports Pikachu’s face on the front.

Apart from the new design, the consoles are essentially the same 2DS XL consoles that gamers have come to know, so if you already own a 2DS XL and you’re not really a huge Pokemon fan, then maybe these consoles aren’t worth purchasing. Unfortunately for gamers who wouldn’t mind spending money to get another 2DS XL for the sake of collecting, it seems that for now these limited edition consoles will be limited to the Japanese market.

It is unclear if Nintendo has plans to bring the consoles stateside or to other parts of the world, but as we have seen in the past, Nintendo has no qualms about catering to just the Japanese market, so gamers will have to rely on grey market imports (for now) if they wish to get their hands on these consoles.

However for the North American market, Nintendo will finally be bring the 2DS XL in white and orange come 6th of October. This is following the launch in Europe and Japan in which that particular finish was available since July this year.
