Twitter today rolled out an update for its iPhone app which pulls the accompanying Apple Watch app. There have been quite a few reports about bugs on the Apple Watch iteration of the Twitter app. The microblogging network has deemed it fit to pull the app temporarily as it goes back to fix the bugs. It’s unclear when the app will be released again.

Many Twitter users on the Apple Watch have complained about the app crashing on the smartwatch since watchOS 4 was released earlier this month. Twitter hasn’t addressed the matter but it appears to have pulled the app quietly so that it can implement the fixes and then roll it out.

The Twitter app for iPhone was updated recently and the release notes only mention that it brings a fix for uploading high-resolution images. Even the changelog doesn’t address the issues with the accompanying Apple Watch app.

There’s also speculation that this is a permanent change, that the Twitter app for Apple Watch may never return. We’ve seen it with other major apps like eBay and Google Maps where their developers felt that there wasn’t enough usage to keep the app around. While Google did say that Maps would be back on the Apple Watch eventually, it’s still not here.

Whether or not this will happen with Twitter remains to be seen. Users will certainly appreciate some clarity on this from Twitter.
