Given how Sony is more or less having free reign with its full-frame mirrorless cameras with no one to challenge them, it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that companies such as Canon and Nikon might have something in the works. In fact it seems that according to recent rumors, Canon might have more than one such camera in development.
In a report from Canon Rumors, they have heard that Canon apparently has three full-frame mirrorless cameras that they are development, although it seems that they are in different stages of development and that they might not all be released at once, but at least one model should be revealed by the end of 2018.
One of the cameras is said to be a full-frame mirrorless with a native EF mount, meaning that existing Canon camera owners should have no problems using their EF lenses with the device. The second device is said to be a smaller camera with a new mount which has been speculated to be a modified EF-M mount, and last but not least, the third model is rumored to be a full-frame mirrorless with a fixed lens and will most likely be skipping a 2018 launch.
Safe to say that you should take it with a grain of salt for now, but recent reports have indicated that Canon could be using a new dedicated sensor for its full-frame mirrorless lineup. We’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information, but given that it’s only in 2018 that we’ll be seeing Canon announce something (if at all), we’ll be in for quite a wait.
