Facebook’s take is dubbed Workplace and in a recent report from TechCrunch, it seems that Facebook could have quietly launched an official Workplace desktop app for PC and Mac users dubbed Workplace Chat. This was discovered in a Facebook FAQ with regards to questions about the desktop app, which means that the app is indeed for real.
Just like how we’ve seen WhatsApp evolve from a mere app on mobile devices, to launching on the web, and eventually coming onto computers in its own app, it looks like Workplace is doing the same where users can chat with each other, and one key feature is the ability to share screens with one another as well.
Facebook has since confirmed the app and that they are currently testing it out before making it available to more users. Facebook spokesperson Vanessa Chan was quoted as saying, “This was one of the most widely requested features by customers, so we built it. The desktop app is still in beta and being tested by Workplace customers who are providing feedback that we’ll use to improve the product before a wider rollout.”
