2019 is shaping up to the year of reboots. Soon after it was confirmed that the Terminator franchise will be rebooted with the original cast in 2019, a new report reveals that the new Men in Black movie release has been set for summer 2019. According to the report, Sony Pictures has fast-tracked the spinoff of its famous alien franchise.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not likely to return in their previous roles, reports Deadline, but the film will be set in the same universe as the originals. It’s just not going to be a remake of the original that came out back in 1997.

Matt Holloway & Art Marcum, the writing team behind Iron Man, will pen the script for the new Men in Black movie. They are said to have created a script for a contemporary sci-fi movie about a secret force that protects the earth from aliens that are bent on destroying the world. That sounds familiar.

It was previously reported that the new Men in Black movie is actually going to be a crossover with another hit Sony Pictures franchise, 21 Jump Street. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s characters from that franchise were previously reported to play the lead roles in the new Men in Black movie.

While that idea hasn’t been shelved entirely, the report claims that the spinoff is moving quickly and will likely arrive before that crossover, if it ever happens in the first place.

The new Men in Black movie release has reportedly been set for May 17th, 2019.
