There are plenty of ways that you can make sure that the intimate photos on your phone don’t show up in camera roll. If they do show up in the camera roll, it becomes very risky to show off unrelated pictures to someone on your phone as there’s always a risk of an accidental swipe or tap. There’s a new app called Nude that aims to save users from such incidents. It uses artificial intelligence to automatically detect and hide nudes from the camera roll on iPhones.

The Nude app for iPhone uses artificial intelligence to figure out which images need to be hidden from the camera roll. The AI analyzes the photos on the device itself, it doesn’t upload them to a server for analysis. The images are then deleted from iCloud if they’ve been backed up and moved to a password-protected vault in the Nude app.

This functionality doesn’t work with videos at this point in time so users will have to be careful about them on their own. Eventually, the tech might be solid enough to analyze and do the same for videos as well.

The app has been developed by young entrepreneurs from UC Berkeley. It uses the CoreML technology that Apple introduced with iOS 11 for enhanced artificial intelligence applications on its platform. The Nude app for iPhone itself is free but there’s a $0.99 per month charge to use it.
