Sony has released a new system software update for the PlayStation 4 today. It brings a handful of new features to the console, including but not limited to Team Tournaments. PS4 system software update 5.0 is out now and it brings improvements for broadcasting, messages, family messages, and more.

With Team Tournaments, PS4 owners can compete against other teams for prizes and status. The Team Tournament feature will go live on October 5th. The initial batch of games that support this feature include Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, World of Tanks, and Mantis Burn Racing. More titles will support this feature down the line.

Players can join or own up to a maximum of 60 different teams. Each team needs to have an owner and captain(s) to manage things. Teams have their own customizable team page where member information, upcoming and ongoing events are displayed. An integrated team chat feature makes communicating with fellow team members quite easy.

Additional improvements have also been made to the PS4’s messaging functionality. Some of the PS4 apps are getting updates as well, these include PlayStation Communities and PlayStation Messages.

Sony has started rolling out the latest software update for the PlayStation 4. You should receive a notification when it goes live in your region.
