Samsung HMD Odyssey Mixed Reality Headset Unveiled

Word on the street has it that Samsung could be looking to dabble in new wearable headsets that aren’t just virtual reality, and that the company might have a mixed reality headset in the works. In fact just earlier today, Microsoft might have let the cat out of the bag earlier than expected, but Samsung has since confirmed it.

The company has officially announced its own Windows Mixed Reality headset, the Samsung HMD Odyssey. According to Samsung’s announcement, the HMD Odyssey will feature dual 3.5-inch AMOLED displays and a 110-degree field of vision. The headset will also feature built-in AKG headphones that will offer up 360-degree spatial sound to help make the experience even more immersive.

According to Alex Kipman, Technical Fellow at Microsoft, “We’re excited to welcome the Samsung HMD Odyssey to the Windows Mixed Reality family of devices. This is an incredible product and another important step for the mixed reality journey we are on at Microsoft.  With the Samsung HMD Odyssey, the team at Samsung has developed a Windows Mixed Reality headset that will delight our fans looking to immerse themselves in the world of mixed reality this holiday.”

As for pricing, it seems to be in line with the earlier post in which the headset will cost customers $500 with pre-orders starting today and is expected to ship out by the 10th of November.
