Apps like WhatsApp allow users to share their location with their contacts. However this location is static meaning that once it’s been shared, it can’t be changed unless you re-share it. For those who are interested in live location sharing, you might be interested to learn that WhatsApp has recently announced the launch of the feature.

According to the company, “Whether you’re meeting up with friends, letting loved ones know you’re safe, or sharing your commute, Live Location is a simple and secure way to let people know where you are. This end-to-end encrypted feature lets you control who you share with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire.”

We should point out that Facebook Messenger already has the feature, so we guess it doesn’t really come as a surprise to see that WhatsApp is gaining the feature as well. Recently messenger app Telegram has also been updated to include live location sharing, so it seems that this is becoming a pretty popular feature to have within messenger apps.

The feature is already live and according to WhatsApp, it is now in the process of rolling out to both iOS and Android devices so if you don’t see it yet, you should be able to expect it in the next few weeks.
