It was previously not possible to stream music from Spotify on Sonos speakers using Amazon’s Alexa digital personal assistant. That changes today. Sonos has confirmed that its customers can now stream music from Spotify on its products using Alexa. To take advantage of this feature, they will first have to select Spotify as the preferred service in the Alexa app.

Once Spotify has been selected as the preferred service in the Alexa app, users can easily command Alexa to stream their Spotify collection of albums, playlists, songs, and artists on their Sonos speakers and it’s going to go and do just that.

The Sonos One is the first speaker from Sonos that has integrated mics for Alexa. However, the product wasn’t able to stream music from Spotify at launch in response to voice commands. Users could only do that through the Sonos or Spotify app and it defeated the entire purpose of owning a Sonos One.

Sonos knew that this was a customer pain point so it has addressed it. The company had previously said that it would add full support for Spotify by December 21st. Fortunately, it hasn’t made its customers wait that long. Sonos users can easily command Alexa starting today to stream music from Spotify.
