It appears the progress on the live-action Detective Pikachu movie is moving along nicely. Just the other day it was reported that the movie’s lead actor has been found, and now a report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the movie’s lead actress has also been found in the form of Kathryn Newton.

For those unfamiliar with Newton’s work, she starred in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Apparently Newton beat out the likes of Natalia Dyer, Haley Lu Richardson, and Katherine Langford, all of whom were said to be in the running for the role. Newton will join Justice Smith who will be the male lead in the movie. Newton’s role in the movie will be that of a journalist, who together with Smith will go on an adventure with Pikachu as they solve mysteries.

The plot of the story is also unclear at this point in time, save for the fact that it will be a Pokemon movie based on Detective Pikachu, but we expect additional details to be revealed at a later date. It will be interesting to see how this movie pans out. While the cartoon version of the Pokemon movie was a hit, in the past we’ve seen how live-action movies based on video games tend to flop.

Will this movie break that curse? It remains to be seen, although right now a release date for the movie has yet to be set.
