Drones are useful for all sorts of things, whether it be for photography, videography, surveillance, site inspections, and so on. It can also be used for search and rescue, as was recently demonstrated over in North Carolina where according to a report from Fox News, a drone was used to help find a missing woman.

According to the report, 81-year old Mary Brown was walking near her home when she got lost. After it was reported that she had gone missing, the Randolph County police then launched a drone which was used to help locate Brown and was successful in doing so after about a 30 minutes search.

In a post on Facebook by Sheriff Robert A. Graves, it was revealed that a K9 unit had been dispatched to help with the search as well, but due to the difficult terrain and a corn field, the search efforts were slowed. It is unclear what drone was used in their search efforts, but it does highlight how useful drones can be.

Graves adds, “The Drone pilot, Officer Adam Krolfifer was able to locate the missing person within 25 minutes. The Drone program at the Sheriff’s Office is one of our newest projects and one more project in our effort of going from “Good to Great” in professional community service.” In the meantime you can check out the video above which shows the drone’s search efforts in action.
