Facebook has created Snapchat Stories clones for Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Facebook Messenger. The company decided to call this feature Messenger Day on its chat app for some reason. It has finally acknowledged the obvious redundancy and has decided to phase out Messenger Day. The feature will only be referred to as Stories from now on and posts will be synced across Facebook and Facebook Messenger.

To be clear, the social network hasn’t removed the Stories feature from Messenger. It has just phased out the Messenger Day branding. The feature is still there and is simply called Stories now.

Stories will host all of the 24 hour ephemeral photos and videos from users. The posts will be synced so they will appear in both Facebook and Messenger apps. Viewing is going to be synced as well so if you’ve already watched a Story in Messenger, it won’t be displayed as unviewed in the Facebook app.

Facebook product manager Connor Hayes says that the company felt the need to make it easier for users to share Stories across different apps. “Some people actually thought these experiences were already connected. We feel like it would make sense,” he added.

The cameras in Facebook and Messenger will be different, though. Users will find augmented reality-focused masks and filters on Facebook while captions and stylized text take center stage in Stories on Messenger.
