Nintendo is a bit late to the mobile game, but we suppose given that we’ll be using smartphones for quite the foreseeable future, we suppose better late than never. However it also looks like the company plans on making up for lost time by stating their plans to launch as many as 2-3 new smartphone apps every year.

This was revealed during Nintendo’s latest financial report (via IGN) in which Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima spoke about the company’s existing mobile lineup, the future, and their plans for smartphones. “We will continue services for applications that have already been released, and we will continue releasing new smart device applications on the order of two to three per year.”

As it stands the next mobile title that Nintendo plans to launch is Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp which was announced last week. So far this year Nintendo has released Fire Emblem Heroes and with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, it will fall within their target of 2-3 app launches per year.

That being said, Nintendo’s mobile efforts have been a bit mixed in terms of success. For example while Super Mario Run managed to achieve 200 million downloads, Nintendo revealed that the game isn’t as profitable as they would like, but we suppose these are the lessons that the company will learn along the way and improve upon in the future, hopefully.
