Many flagship smartphones these days offer wireless charging. Even Apple has jumped on the bandwagon finally with its new iPhones. So one would expect the upcoming “flagship killer” from OnePlus to have this feature as well. It turns out that OnePlus 5T wireless charging feature has been ruled out by the company.

The OnePlus 5T is going to be an updated version of the OnePlus 5. Most of the internals will remain the same, however, the device is going to have a bezel-less display. That’s really going to be one of the biggest changes that the company makes to this device.

The company’s fans might be hoping that it would also add wireless charging, since this is a feature that’s becoming very common on flagship-level handsets. That’s not going to be the case with this device, though.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that OnePlus 5T isn’t going to have wireless charging because “given the current state of this technology, Dash Charge is still the superior choice.”

For those who are unaware, Dash Charging is what the company calls its own rapid charging system. The company claims that it provides a day’s worth of juice for just 30 minutes of charge time. Moreover, wireless charging confines the handset to a charging pad. “You can’t pick up your phone to game or take a photo while charging,” Lau points out.

Lau does say that OnePlus isn’t entirely opposed to the idea of wireless charging. He says that the company will consider adding it to their phones “when the time is right.”
