The Spider-Man franchise plays home to many superheroes and villains, which to be honest Sony has only scratched the surface of. However it seems that the company is working at bringing more of the Spider-Man universe onto the big screen because according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, a new Spider-Man spinoff movie is in the works.

The report claims that the studio is developing a new Spider-Man spinoff based on Morbius, the Living Vampire. For those unfamiliar, Morbius (despite his appearance and his “vampire” status) is actually one of the good guys. He’s also not an actual vampire, but gained a vampiric trait after he tried to cure himself from a rare blood disease. While Morbius first appeared in Spider-Man, he eventually went on to have his own series of comics.

Sony has yet to confirm whether or not the movie is in development, which means that official details are scarce, such as who will be directing it and who might star in it, although the report does claim that Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (both of whom worked on the recent Power Rangers movie) were the ones who wrote the script and submitted it to Sony.

Like we said, Sony does appear to be interested in bringing more characters from Spider-Man onto the big screen. Earlier this year Sony announced that a Venom movie is in the works for a 2018 release in which it will be starring Tom Hardy in the titular role.
