Final Fantasy XV has been pretty well-received amongst fans, but to be fair it is getting a bit “old”. Now if you’re looking forward to more Final Fantasy-related content, you might be interested to learn that 2018 could be a big year for the franchise. This is according to Final Fantasy’s brand manager Shinji Hashimoto.

In an interview with Edamame Arcade, Hashimoto touched briefly on the developments that are being made with regards to the franchise, and revealed that there are new titles being worked on. According to Hashimoto, “This year is the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy. There aren’t many things that go for 30 years. With the support of the fans of Final Fantasy, next year will be the 31st year, and our teams are busy working on new titles. They are all gearing up for a big year next year. Next year is going to be a big year.”

Naturally he doesn’t reveal what exactly will be announced in 2018, so it does leave a lot to speculation. For example recently it has been suggested that the Final Fantasy VII Remake’s release date could be announced next year (and potentially released in the same year as well). Let’s not forget that Square Enix has also expressed enthusiastically their desire to develop titles for the Nintendo Switch.

There have also been talks about Final Fantasy games, such as Final Fantasy XIV, being brought over onto the Switch. Whether or not these reports are part of Square Enix’s plan for the franchise in 2018 remains to be seen, but it could be worth keeping an eye out for.
