As you might have heard, Disney has confirmed that following the end of the current Star Wars trilogy, a new trilogy will be created by The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson. This means that not only do Star Wars fans have Episode IX and the standalone Han Solo movie, they have three new Star Wars movies to look forward to in the future.

However it looks like that won’t be all as Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has recently confirmed that a new Star Wars live action TV series is in development as well. Unfortunately details about the series remains scarce at this point in time, save for its release date which is currently set for 2019 (which is also when Episode IX will be release), and that it will be released on Disney’s own video streaming service.

For those unfamiliar, Disney announced several months ago that they will be launching their own video streaming service. The company also confirmed that shows related to Marvel and Star Wars will also be an exclusive to its service, meaning that services like Netflix that offer Disney/Marvel content could lose some pretty major titles.

Series based around Star Wars isn’t new as we have seen titles like Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, although these series are animations so this upcoming will be the first live action Star Wars series. We expect that more details will be released in the coming months/years.
