With the iPhone X, Apple has not only introduced a new display as far as iPhones are concerned in the form of an OLED screen, but they have also bumped the resolution up from previous iPhone models, and also have also made it bigger. This means that apps designed for previous models need to be updated to take advantage of the new display.

The good news is that developers are already on it, and Alphabet’s YouTube has recently released an update that will support the iPhone X’s new display. According to the changelog, the update to the app will introduce support for the iPhone X’s display which will also introduce a “pinch to zoom” feature when in fullscreen mode.

Basically what this does is that users can now pinch in on any video and it should fill up the whole screen. However as PhoneArena notes, this means that you will get some loss of content due to the crop. However also due to the notch on the iPhone X, YouTube will default to the traditional letterbox mode which means that you will see black bars on the left and right side of the video, but users have the option of zooming in with the pinch to zoom feature if they want to take advantage of the iPhone X’s edge-to-edge display.

The update should be live so users of the iPhone X should be able to find the latest update via the iTunes App Store if they haven’t already set their apps to automatically update.
