While Amazon might ship to most parts of the world, sometimes shipping can be slow and expensive due to Amazon not having local fulfilment centers. However for those living in Australia, you might have heard that Amazon has since expanded its operations in the country by launching its own fulfilment center in Dandenong in the state of Victoria.

In fact it seems that launching Australia proved to be a good choice by Amazon, because according to the company, they are boasting that the opening day in Australia was its biggest opening day ever. This is according to Rocco Braeuniger, Country Manager of Amazon Australia who said, “We are thankful to Australian customers for making this a landmark day in Amazon history. From early in the day, we experienced visitor numbers that far exceeded our expectations.”

At launch Amazon Australia will offer 23 different product categories that customers can shop in, such as Books, Music, Clothing & Accessories, Consumer Electronics, Kitchenware, and more. We expect that Amazon will expand on those product categories as time moves on. Braeuniger adds, “We will be working hard today and in the long term to continue to enhance our offering and to provide customers with an ever-increasing selection of products at low prices.”

Amazon is also expected expected to eventually bring its Prime service to Australia next year, so it could help make things speedier and cheaper for residents in the country and also possibly its neighbors, like New Zealand.
