Over the years ever since the first Apple Watch was released, we’ve been hearing stories about how the device has saved the lives of quite a few of its users, such as alerting them to impending heart attacks. In fact just a new report from 9to5Mac will see the Apple Watch chalk up another life saved.

The report tells the story of Scott Killian, who before turning 50 underwent a barrage of health tests to make sure that he is healthy and to rule out any health concerns that might be associated with his age. The tests all came back with good news which basically cleared him, but then one night when he was sleeping, his Apple Watch, which he wears to sleep to track his sleeping patterns, alerted him via a third-party app called HeartWatch that his resting heart rate was elevated during his sleep.

Killian also experienced some mild indigestion which are signs of a potential heart attack, which prompted him to visit the emergency room as a precaution. The hospital then tested him using an EKG but the reports came back normal, despite the fact that his Apple Watch still reported that his heart rate was elevated. It was only after they took a blood test that it was discovered an elevated enzyme that signals that a heart attack has occurred or is occurring.

Speaking to 9to5Mac, Killian said what his surgeon told him was remarkable, “He said had I kept sleeping, I probably wouldn’t have woken up. I would have died in my sleep.”
