If you wanted to activate voice search on Android, in the past the command would be “OK Google”. However when Google introduced the Google Home, the hotword became “Hey Google”, which created a bit of confusion as users might sometimes confuse between the two, especially if either device are in proximity of each other.

However the good news is that Google is finally unifying its commands. According to a report from Android Police, it appears that the “Hey Google” hotword is rolling out to Android users. What this means is that if you have an Android device, you can now choose to use “Hey Google” as your hotword of choice, meaning that you won’t have to juggle between “OK Google” or “Hey Google” moving forwards, although like we said, this could create some confusion if you have a Google Home and Android handset within earshot of each other.

However Android users will get to choose between the hotwords, so if you want you can still keep using “OK Google” to differentiate between devices. Note that Google began testing “Hey Google” for some Android users back in October, and we guess testing went fine as it is rolling out to more users now. If this is something you want to check out, then head on over to Settings > Google > Search > Voice to make the changes.
