If there is one gripe that many iMac and MacBook owners have is that the front-facing camera installed on their computers is definitely not up to par with some of the third-party options out there. For example for a computer that can display a 5K resolution, the FaceTime camera on the iMac is a measly HD.

However Apple rectified this with the launch of the iMac Pro, where the computer comes with an upgrade 1080p FaceTime camera. Apple has also made some upgrades compared to the regular 5K iMac, such as with its speakers. If you’re wondering how big a difference the camera and speakers are, the folks at AppleInsider have put together a comparison video which compares some of the features of the iMac Pro versus that of the 5K iMac.

Now comparing speakers in a video is obviously not going to be the most accurate way of testing it, but you can tell that there is a difference. For starters the volume on the iMac Pro seems to be louder, and it also sounds “cleaner” and brighter. The bass is also more pronounced.

As for the difference between the FaceTime cameras and audio quality, it’s like night and day. The iMac Pro’s camera captured video better with more natural looking lighting, while the 5K iMac’s camera felt soft around the edges and also had a blue-ish tinge to it. Of course we don’t think an upgraded camera and better speakers are reasons to upgrade to the considerably more expensive iMac Pro, but hopefully these are some improvements we can expect in 2018’s iMac refresh.
