You’ve probably heard that Disney has commissioned another trilogy of Star Wars movies. These movies are expected to be released after Star Wars Episode IX, but given how long off that is going to be, not much is known about it, save for the fact that The Last Jedi’s director Rian Johnson will be working on it.

However we do know what it’s not going to be, and that is it won’t be about The Old Republic. In an interview with Mashable, Johnson confirmed that future trilogy of Star Wars movies will not be based on The Old Republic video game. The lore in the game is one that many fans seem to love and wouldn’t mind seeing it brought onto the big screen, but unfortunately that’s another story for someone else to tell.

According to Johnson, “Oh, they love Knights of the Old Republic. I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it. Yeah, that’s a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you’ve already seen.” However despite his fondness for the game, Johnson is more interested in telling a new story that hasn’t been told before.

“To me what’s really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?” Like we said, we’re still probably many years away from the new trilogy being made a reality, so fans will just have to remain patient about it.
