Imagine pay full-price and buying a DVD or Blu-ray copy of a movie or video game, and whenever you watch it or play it ads pop up from time to time. How miffed would you be? Unfortunately that’s something that Xiaomi users have had to live with thanks to the ads Xiaomi included in its MIUI custom ROM that they install on their phones.

However it seems that Xiaomi could be having a change of heart, or at least give users the option to remove the ads if they’re willing to pay for it. According to GizmoChina, the company has recently announced the launch of the “Super VIP” program over in China, where for a monthly subscription fee, ads will be removed from MIUI along with other features.

This includes to downloading 1,000 books per month, 5GB of cloud storage, and access to 22 exclusive themes. This is priced at around RMB 9 per month, or alternatively RMB 88 a year which will also give users access to 10GB of cloud storage, access to 37 exclusive themes, and 1,200 book downloads.

Whether or not this will be worth it for users remains to be seen, but we’re sure that not many are too thrilled with the idea of having to pay a recurring fee on top of the price of the phone that they’ve already paid.
