As you might have heard, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has plans to eventually bring its phones to the US. We’re not sure when that will be, but the company does indeed plan to do so in the future. Could it be next year? While it is possible, Xiaomi’s recent comments doesn’t seem particularly optimistic.

During a recent interview with several journalists, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun revealed that they still aren’t 100% ready for a US launch just yet. Lei Jun notes that the company still has their sights on a US launch, but apparently it will take “careful preparation” before they can do so, although he did not get into any specifics. He was quoted as saying, “We hope to be an immediate success in the US so we need a lot of time and careful preparation to achieve that.”

Recently we heard that the company was aiming to do so in the next 1-2 years, but it is clear that they don’t seem like they’re much closer. It will be interesting to see how they will fare should they find their way stateside. Xiaomi’s phones are known to be pretty affordable and have been well-received in Asia where they are a popular choice.

However coming to the US does mean a completely different market, plus there are also other competitors to think about, like Apple and Samsung, plus other Chinese competitors like Huawei that they’ll need to deal with.
