2018’s iPhone X Could Sport Improved Face ID, Updated Design

Apple’s iPhone X certainly works as advertised, but even the staunchest Apple supporter has to admit that there are some issues that definitely need to be ironed out. In Apple’s defense, Face ID is a new piece of technology that they are introducing and just like all things new, there are bound to be some kinks.

This is why it isn’t surprising to hear that later this year when Apple launches their new iPhones, that they could come with improved Face ID. This is according to a report from analyst firm TrendForce who believes that 2018’s iPhone X could sport an improved Face ID. By “improved” we’re not sure what that means exactly, whether it will be on the software side or the hardware side.

Last year analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple is expected to stick to the same Face ID sensors for 2018’s iPhones and that because of that, supply is expected to be better. Changing up the hardware means that supply could be impacted again. In addition to an improved Face ID, TrendForce is also predicting an updated design with an improved screen-to-body ratio.

We have heard rumors that Apple is planning on offering a larger iPhone X this year, but there is no mention of changing its screen-to-body ratio. In any case it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now.
