If you were thinking about getting a new MacBook Pro this year and were holding out for the 2018 model, prepare to be disappointed because a report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors) has hinted that this year’s MacBook Pro refresh will not be bringing about any type of major upgrades.
Assuming that the report is accurate (DigiTimes has a bit of a spotty record, but they do get things right once in a while), it doesn’t mean there won’t be a refresh. It just means that should there be a refresh, chances are we’re probably looking at an upgrade in the CPU department and maybe the GPU, and that’s probably about it.
If you were hoping that maybe we could see Apple incorporate OLED displays into the MacBook Pro, or perhaps even integrate Face ID into the MacBook Pro, then this is probably not the year for you. This would be rather disappointing for some who were hoping for some major upgrades, especially since the last major refresh was back in 2016 when Apple introduced the Touch Bar to the laptop.
However the upside is that if you’re not too fussed about having the latest processors or GPUs, then the refreshed MacBook Pros would probably mean that the previous generation will most likely see a discount, possibly saving you a couple of hundred in the process.
