Apple’s macOS operating system is obviously not the most-used platform in the world, but in terms of the number of computers sold, it looks like Apple is actually doing pretty well for themselves. This is according to the latest numbers by IDC and Gartner, in which it revealed that Apple had managed to sell 20 million Mac computers in 2017.

What this means is that Apple is the fourth in the world in terms of the number of computers sold. Based on this, Apple is said to command about 7.6% of the total number of computers shipped in 2017, putting them behind the likes of HP at 22.7%, Lenovo at 21.1%, and Dell at 16.1%.

Acer and ASUS are below Apple, although admittedly not by much at 6.8% and 6.6% respectively. However in terms of growth, Apple has seen a 5.9% growth compared to the previous year, which is actually the second largest amongst the top six, with HP seeing the largest growth of 8.2%.

Last year also saw Apple release the iMac Pro, which is the iMac designed for professional users in mind. Apple is also expected to launch an updated Mac Pro as well this year, if the rumors are to be believed, so perhaps those numbers could increase then as well.
