Smartphone cameras are so good now that they can easily be used to capture some great video. You might want to use a smartphone stabilizer if you want professional-grade shots and there are many to choose from. Drone-maker DJI sells a great stabilizer called the Osmo Mobile but it’s not cheap at $399. That changes today. The company has now launched a new Osmo Mobile smartphone stabilizer that costs $129.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 also comes with a couple of functional improvements. The core functionality is obviously there, it will stop the handset from shaking in your hands when you’re shooting video. The new Osmo Mobile also has support for portrait video. Its predecessor only had support for landscape.

This is a welcome addition for one big reason. Videos are generally watched back on smartphones where the portrait orientation is the most natural to consume content. DJI has also made a battery-related change to the new stabilizer.

Instead of using replaceable batteries, the Osmo Mobile 2 has an internal battery which the company estimates is going to last up to 15 hours on a single charge. That’s a significant improvement compared to the replaceable batteries that offered 3-4.5 hours of battery life.

DJI is going to start taking pre-orders for the Osmo Mobile 2 from January 23rd. It’s going to be released next month. At $129, it’s much more affordable than its predecessor.
