Samsung confirmed at CES 2018 last week that it’s going to unveil the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at the Mobile World Congress 2018 next month. The company will confirm at the event when the handset is actually going to be released. It seems that the Galaxy S9 release date might possibly have been revealed by a “C-level executive at a major casemaker.”

This according to prolific leaker @evleaks who claims to have heard about the Galaxy S9 release date from said C-level executive. The unnamed executive claims that after Samsung unveils the handset at MWC next month, it’s going to start taking pre-orders for it from March 1st. The Galaxy S9 release date is claimed to be March 16th.

None of this has been officially confirmed at this point in time so while the timeline makes sense, best take it with a grain of salt for now. Samsung hasn’t hinted at anything to suggest that this is the timeline it’s going to follow.

The Galaxy S9 will be unveiled about a month earlier than its predecessor. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 at a special event in New York City on March 29th last year and started taking pre-orders for it the very next day. The company released it in the United States and several other markets across the globe on April 21st.

As previously mentioned, even if the timeline makes sense, it’s possible that it may be off by a day or two. We won’t really know for sure until Samung makes the official announcement at MWC 2018 next month.

The Galaxy S9 will build upon the success of the Galaxy S8 with more powerful internals and subtle design tweaks. The Galaxy S9+ will also get a dual camera system at the back.
