In terms of comparing consoles against each other, it would be a more fair assessment when pitting consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One against each other. While the Nintendo Switch is also considered a current-gen console, it is clear based on the gameplay and games available for it that it is aimed at a different audience.

However it seems that despite that, the Nintendo Switch appears to be doing quite well because according to NPD’s upcoming report for console sales in the US for the month of December, the Switch has apparently outsold both the PS4 and Xbox One. This was confirmed by Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg who got a copy of the report early.

In his tweet he writes, “Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X. But yes Xbox outsold PS4 in December for Gen 8 consoles according to NPD data, while Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units.”

Hearing this piece of news about the Switch doesn’t come as a complete surprise. So far the console has been doing extremely well all over the world, where it managed to beat the Wii U’s lifetime sales in Japan in less than a year. It also boasts the achievement as being the fastest-selling console in the US.
